Coordinating livelihood referrals for displaced people in Jordan has shown me a steady limitation: I can redesign a referral pathway and negotiate across teams, but I lack the analytical tools to judge whether the design itself reflects sound protection-sensitive practice, or how comparable systems have been evaluated elsewhere. The MSc in Migration Studies at the University of Oxford is built to close that gap. Two course areas map directly onto my work limitations. Research Methods in Migration Studies would let me design an evaluation that goes beyond the early indicators I can honestly report now, so I can test whether a revised pathway actually reduces harm rather than only moves cases faster. Oxford's Centre on Migration, Policy and Society runs seminars and practitioner workshops that are hard to reach from Amman, and I would use them to shape a dissertation question on evaluating livelihood referral pathways in protracted displacement. The UK's work on resettlement and protection policy gives a useful comparator for Jordan's host-country setting. I also researched the MA Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies at SOAS and the MSc Humanitarian Action at the University of Manchester. Both are strong on protection, but Oxford's broader policy and methods scope fits my aim better. After return, I plan to pilot a short evaluation framework for referral pathways with two NGO partners in Amman, then bring the results to the Livelihoods Working Group under the inter-agency coordination structure. One indicator I want to track is the share of referred cases that reach a documented outcome within ninety days, as a modest first test of whether the design holds.
