Now – July 2026
Preparation window
Applications are not open yet — which makes this the highest-leverage period. Essays drafted in a rush during the open window are the most common reason strong candidates fail.
Map your leadership and networking evidence, shortlist three UK courses, draft and pressure-test your four essays, and identify two referees.
August 2026 (expected)
Applications open
The 2027/2028 application window is expected to open in early August 2026 on the official Chevening portal, following the standard annual pattern. Official dates are confirmed on chevening.org.
Create your account early, enter referee details, and submit well before the deadline — the portal slows down in the final days.
Early October 2026 (expected)
Application deadline
Recent cycles have closed in early October (the 2027 intake deadline is expected around 7 October 2026). Late submissions are not accepted for any reason.
Final consistency check across all four essays before submitting — reviewers notice contradictions between them.
November 2026 – January 2027
Sifting and shortlisting
Independent reading committees score applications against the eligibility criteria and the four essay criteria. Most applicants are eliminated at this stage.
Nothing is required from you — but this is the ideal window to start interview preparation instead of waiting for the invitation.
Before your interview
References and documents due
If shortlisted, you must upload two reference letters and your education documents no later than seven working days before your interview. Missing documents mean disqualification regardless of interview performance.
Brief your referees now, not after the invitation — seven working days is very little time to get a strong, consistent letter signed.
February – April 2027
Interviews
Shortlisted candidates interview at the British embassy or high commission in their country, typically 30–60 minutes with a panel probing the same leadership, networking, study, and career criteria as the essays.
Practise answering follow-up pressure questions on your own essays — panels test whether your stories hold up under scrutiny.
June 2027 onwards
Results
Outcomes are released in waves from early June: conditional offers, reserve list, or unsuccessful.
Conditional offers must be converted: secure an unconditional offer from one of your three chosen courses.
Mid-July 2027 (expected)
Unconditional university offer deadline
You must hold an unconditional offer from at least one of your three course choices by the deadline Chevening sets (typically mid-July).
Chase university admissions early — English test results and document verification are the usual bottlenecks.
September – October 2027
Award begins
Pre-departure briefings, visa processing, and travel to the UK for the start of your master's programme.
