Chevening Studying in the UK Essay Example: Psychosocial support program coordinator

Coordinating psychosocial support across Lebanese schools, I keep hitting the same wall: I can map student needs and run referrals, but I cannot tell which interventions actually reduce distress or sustain attendance, and I cannot defend design changes with evidence my coordinators will accept. That gap shapes my course choice. My first choice is the MSc Global Mental Health, jointly offered by King's College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Two course-supported areas address my limitation directly: epidemiology of mental disorders, which would teach me to read prevalence and outcome data critically, and mental health policy, services and systems, which covers how referral pathways and school-based services are designed and evaluated in low-resource settings. I also want to use the Centre for Global Mental Health as a working resource during study: attending its seminars, shaping a dissertation around school-based psychosocial evaluation in protracted crises, and asking course peers and supervisors to critique my indicator set before I take it home. The PRIME implementation studies give me a comparison point my current work lacks. My second and third choices, the MSc Psychology and Education at Cambridge and the MSc Public Mental Health at Queen Mary University of London, approach the same problem through developmental and population lenses. Back in Lebanon, I will bring a short evaluation note and a revised outcome tracker to my programme manager and two partner schools, proposing one cycle of structured before-and-after measurement on referral completion and student-reported distress. Success would mean the tracker is used for a full term and the findings shape next year's psychosocial plan with our INGO partner, with one summary shared at a Ministry of Education coordination meeting if the schools agree.
