I manage rural lower-secondary programmes at a mid-sized NGO where field teams collect attendance and assessment data that rarely shapes decisions. Closing that gap is the spine of my career plan.
Short term, in year one back, I will run a quarterly Learning Review inside our five-district programme: a four-page data pack plus a structured meeting with field officers, two partner principals, and our M&E lead. I am targeting four cycles across forty schools and six thousand students, with at least two documented programme adjustments per cycle. Our Country Director has agreed in principle; the harder shift is getting district education officers to treat us as an evidence partner, which I will earn by co-presenting cycle-one results with them.
Mid term, across years three to four, I will move the Learning Review into our six-NGO consortium, where I co-chair the M&E working group. Two members have asked for the template, and our education donor flagged adolescent retention as a 2026 priority. I will align the format with existing logframes so smaller partners avoid parallel reporting, and keep a lighter version for those without dedicated M&E staff.
Longer term, over five years, I want to contribute to the Ministry of Education basic education unit as an external technical advisor on rural adolescent retention. I am already building that footing through a joint retention study with the unit's research officer and two conference papers planned for 2025-2026.
My gap is causal evaluation design and costing education interventions. UCL Institute of Education's MA Education and International Development offers impact evaluation and education economics modules, and the EPI seminar series for practitioner contacts. I plan to return with one tested evaluation protocol my team can apply in cycle five, and to keep a working channel with two Chevening education peers running comparable reviews.
