Coordinating donor-funded projects in Georgia has shown me a specific limit in my own work: I can record how community feedback reshapes a project activity, but I cannot yet judge whether those adjustments hold once donor oversight ends, or why similar reforms stall in comparable contexts. That analytical gap shapes my course choice. My first choice is the MSc International Development at the University of Manchester. Two course areas match the gap directly. The Policy Analysis for Development module would give me structured methods to assess donor-recipient dynamics and the institutional conditions behind durable local ownership. The Aid, Donorship and Development module would let me test why some accountability commitments stay cosmetic. Beyond modules, the Global Development Institute's Effective States and Inclusive Development research stream is the resource I most want to use during study: I would shape my dissertation around localisation in post-Soviet aid settings and bring draft indicators to seminar peers and a supervisor for critique before fieldwork. My second and third choices, MA Diplomacy at SOAS and MSc Development Studies at LSE, approach the same problem through negotiation tools and comparative theory, but Manchester sits closest to my implementation-level experience. The course also fits a stated UK priority. The FCDO 2023 White Paper on International Development commits to locally led development and stronger accountability to recipient countries, which is precisely the practice my work needs. On return, I will pilot a short monitoring sheet with one Georgian civil-society partner I already coordinate with, tracking whether three project adjustments from the last cycle survive twelve months past donor exit. I will share the comparison note with our programme manager and a Chevening alum working in regional development for review, and use their feedback to decide whether the sheet enters our next project design template.
